Since the surround speakers are vital to the recreation of a realistic sound field in home theater applications, Von Schweikert Audio has designed a world-class wall-mount speaker system with 180-degree dispersion and adjustable radiation pattern. The TS-150 features the Global Axis Differential Network which enables the speakers to recreate two different radiation patterns for both music and film sources. A side mounted button converts the radiation pattern from monopole to dipole operation: a monopole has a conventional, forward-firing radiation pattern, while a dipole has a diffuse, non-directional pattern.
Music
and newer movies sound better with a directional monopole speaker, but the older
movies using a mono rear channel sound better with a dipole design, as this
style "bathes" the room with ambience; the sound is magically "everywhere" but
is also highly focused! As the dipolar design mimics an invisible source of
sound spread out across the entire room, many movie buffs prefer this type of
sound, even with the newer discrete digital surround sources such as Dolby Digital
and DTS.
The TS-150 is a reasonably priced rear surround speaker offering both designs with correct implementation. Finally, both music and movie lovers can agree: the TS-150 rules!
CONE ARRAY & ENGINEERING DESIGN In order to bathe a large room with total surround ambience, the TS-150 is shaped as a wedge, spreading the sound over 180 degrees. A pair contains eight high quality, high powered drive units: on each face is mounted a 5.5" bass/mid and 1" tweeter. For timbre matching to other Von Schweikert Audio speakers, the TS-150 uses special diaphragm materials resulting in the highest Clarity Factor available. The bass/mids have mica-impregnated cones to deliver powerful bass, astonishing for their small size. For extremely high transparency, the Ferrofluid-cooled dome tweeters utilize two layers of synthetic vinyl laminated on the silk dome to eliminate distortion at high volume levels. Both woofer and tweeter designs utilize our Low Distortion Motors to handle the dynamic range and volume levels necessary for thrilling realism without compression or distortion.
The
TS-150 can be mounted on the wall, placed on stands, or even mounted on the
ceiling, facing down, enabling installation in any room. This model is available
in Navajo White with white grills if you wish the speaker to "disappear." Other
finishes available are: Black Ash, African Hazelwood, Dark Red Cherry, and Blond
Maple, all with black grills.
System Type: Multiple application surround speaker suitable for either monopolar or dipolar use. A side mounted button is provided to select between the two radiation patterns.

Von Schweikert Audio was founded by legendary speaker designer Mr. Albert Von Schweikert. A CALTECH trained speaker designer with a focus in Electrical Engineering he has over four decades in speaker design and is widely regarded in the industry as one of the pre-eminent speaker designers in the world. Companies such as Disney, Steinway, A&M Records, Sheffield Sound Labs, Mobile Fidelity and JVC have all sought Mr. Von Schweikert for his expertise in superior speaker design.
As a kid, he built his first speakers from kits, and modified stock drivers. He studied violin and piano, played electric guitar and worked on Time Delay Spectrometry with the famed Richard Heyser at the California Institute of Technology. While at CALTECH in the 70's, he delved into computer-based development of speaker design and psycho-acoustics, where he gained new understandings of sound radiation and how this was perceived by the listening audience.
After he left CALTECH University he worked with numerous different audio companies and was responsible for quite a few, and sometimes very spectacular speaker designs. He was in charge of more than one hundred projects, and while many of them don't display his name, most were very well known companies. As one of the world’s most experienced speaker designers he's worked with Bose, JBL, ESS / Heil, Eggleston, Apogee, Cerwin Vega, Counterpoint, Jensen, NHT and many others.
In the mid 90’s Von Schweikert Research moved the whole operation from the West Coast to Watertown, New York. The business enjoyed strong growth there until in 1999 a large flood destroyed most of the company. Financially strong investors urged the company to move back to California where "Von Schweikert Audio“ – abbreviated as VSA – was founded.
VSA has speakers in current production that range from $1,000 to $150,000 and the current product line-up includes nine models: from the compact VR-1 up to the monstrous VR-11. Center and surround-speakers and also several subwoofers top off the line for home cinema lovers. With an expansive global dealer base, the company has been enjoying strong and continuous growth while still pioneering innovative new designs and technologies for accurate and realistic sound reproduction.
With over 30 industry awards and a veritable "Who's Who" of famous clients, Von Schweikert Audio is THE speaker of choice for those who demand the world's very best.
